It housed the City's offices, fire department and jail on the street level; the upstairs lodge rooms were used by Anniversary Lodge No. 85, I.O.O.F. and Arcata Lodge No. 106, F. & A. Masons. What a shame to have lost this fine building, which, for more than seventy years, played a leading 
role in the social, cultural and governmental life of this community
